Laia Cabrera is a filmmaker, video artist and visual designer born in Spain and based in New York since 1997. As a interdisciplinary artist, she uses a variety of media—music, video, storytelling, projected imagery merging cinematic arts; dance, music; photography; theater; visual arts; voice; writing. She has played critical roles in both Spain and the USA as the co-founder of the multi-media group Vertiginosas Theater and Film Company. She also curated and directed award winning multi-media international art shows and more. She is currently the creative director of LAIA CABRERA & CO, a team of film, music and visual artists producing a wide range of multimedia projects, member of the Board of Directors of Topia Arts Center, Adams, MA and an advisory board member at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and director of their annual film documentary. She graduated from the Conservatoire of Lleida, Spain, has a MFA in Audiovisual Communication and a BFA in Media Studies from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain, and in Film Production at the New School University in New York. Ms. Cabrera is the recipient of several awards including the KrTU to Young Creators by the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Kodak and Color Lab award for Best Cinematic Film for "Under Influence".

Her work as a filmmaker includes "Singularity" (inaugurated the International video animation festival "Animac", Spain), "Is There an Edge of Belief?" (International multidisciplinary art festival Jaen en Femenino, Spain and Bienal Internacional ULA 2010, Merida, VENEZUELA, etc,) "Invisible", "Under Influence" (worldwide screenings), "Dropped", among others.

Her latest creation, "Shifting Gaze", a Film-Art-Music Installation made in collaboration with musician Erica Glyn and visual artist Isabelle Duverger, premiered "Spain Art Fest'10" in (Times Square, New York, October 2010) and closed "Region Ø Latino Video Art Festival of New York" (March 2011). Her visual artwork credits includes "Mapping Moebus", a multimedia theater play presented at La Mama theater (New York December 2010); "Monegros-Nueva York" video installation held at La Lonja (Zaragoza, Spain, November to January 2011); "Walk Pasa Bouge V1" Video-Performance-Concert in collaboration with LORROJO Cia presented in New York and Brussels (2009-2011); "Playing Equality" (Dance-theater-Video), Boricua College of New York, (November 2009), Festival Internacional 'ReACT'" Valencia, (Spain. May 2010); "Claim your Place", a large scale video-installation-performance presented in the USA and Europe, "For Feather" a two-video streams projected live in conjunction with live musicians performed at BAM - Brooklyn Academy of Music (New York, November 2008) and throughout the USA, "La Jaula Bajo El Trapo" multimedia theater play at "Festival Teatro Vivo" (King Juan Carlos Center, New York, 2008) "Touching Gravity 2/Tilt" (Dance Video-Interactive) in collaboration with Dancer/Choreographer Caryn Heilman, commissioned by the New Radio and Performing Arts and the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts (New York, 2009), "New York" video-installation at the Institut d'Estudis Ilerdencs (Lleida, Spain, 2009), "Life is a dream", multimedia theater play at the "Festival de Teatro Clásico" (Almagro, Spain, 2009). She is also an award winning visual effects artist, director, editor, writer, playwright and composer.

Her credits as a film editor includes the worldwide screened Docu-Concert "Cachao: Uno mas" with Andy Garcia and Isarel Lopez Cachao, aired on PBS's American Master, 2010; the documentary "The World of Vija Vetra" and the Feature Film "Shut Up and Do It", all with international distribution and she is currently in postproduction with the upcoming historical documentary "Reinventing Kate Carew". She has directed films and commercials for firms such as Samsung, Nielsen, Cotton Inc., Deloitte, MBF Trend Consulting, Karastan, Thom Filicia, Mark Ingram, Juicy Couture, Gap, etc…

As a film and video artist she has collaborated with Arts International, New Stage Theatre Company, World Music of Nana, Liquid Body Media, Movement and Dance, Cinema Tropical, The Austrian Cultural Forum, Spain Culture New York, the Catalan Center, The king Juan Carlos Center (KJCC) at NYU, among others. Her artwork in film, video, and performance has been presented in Europe, the USA and Latin America. She is currently working on a new large site specific visual installation to be presented in the Cathedral Saint John The Devine in New York, November 2011 and implementing new venues for her latest piece Shifting Gaze.
